Rodgers and Hammerstein form a constellation in the sky of American musical theater that sparkles with familiar songs and stories. Rodgers wrote that Carousel was his favorite of them all. Built on a story spun on a Maine summer in simpler times, Carousel captures the longing of carnival barker Billy and millworker Julie pursuing their love through life and loss. “If I Loved You,” “June is Bustin’ Out All Over” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone” sing the tale of clambakes and conflict, consequence and redemption.
